Travel penetrates your consciousness, but not in a rational way.
Mark Twain was a great traveler and he wrote three or four great travel books. I wouldn’t say that I’m a travel novelist but rather a novelist who travels – and who uses travel as a background for finding stories of places.
The attention of a traveller, should be particularly turned, in the first place, to the various works of Nature, to mark the distinctions of the climates he may explore, and to offer such useful observations on the different productions as may occur.
When I travel abroad, because I’m Columbian, I’m always one that they check twice and security and I’m the one that they open my bag and the one they pull to the side to check the visa.
