Acting has always existed alongside my normal life. It’s been a case of learning on the job. I’ve worked in so many styles, with so many people, so I’ve picked bits up from everyone and everything.
I prefer to think of myself as a musician who is still learning and trying to do something every time out.
Football management is such a pressurised thing – horseracing is a release. I’m also learning to play the piano – I’m quite determined – it’s another release from the pressure of my job.
There is, so I believe, in the essence of everything, something that we cannot call learning. There is, my friend, only a knowledge – that is everywhere.
I saw as a teacher how, if you take that spark of learning that those children have, and you ignite it, you can take a child from any background to a lifetime of creativity and accomplishment.
